"description": "The freedom to vote is a bedrock principle of our nation. But certain politicians in Tallahassee are attacking that right in order to gain and keep power. Our leaders should answer to all eligible citizens to ensure we have a government that matches the will of the people. Millions of Floridians—of all parties—use Vote-By-Mail to exercise their right to vote. Florida is a state that enjoys "no-excuse" mail-in voting. And election experts from across the political spectrum agree: Florida's election system is the national "gold standard." But a new bill filed in the Florida Senate by Sen. Blaise Ingoglia (R-Spring Hill) would eliminate universal voting by mail in Florida. Under this bill, (Senate Bill 1752) a voter would have to sign a certificate swearing: he or she would be absent from their home county on election day or the early voting period, have a physical illness or disability preventing them from going to the polls, be a patient in a VA medical facility or be in jail awaiting trial. Anyone who lies on the form could be convicted of a felony, fined up to $5,000 and imprisoned for up to five years for voter fraud. In addition, a voter would have to submit a separate request to vote absentee by mail for every single election, including primaries. Reaction from a Republican elections supervisor was swift. In an article in the Orlando Sentinel, Alan Hays, the Republican supervisor of elections in Lake County said, “I’m sick and tired of this crap.” Write Gov. DeSantis and your Florida lawmakers: tell them our vote-by-mail system is the "gold standard" and millions of us use it to exercise our fundamental American freedom to vote. Don't eliminate it.",
