"description": "Please Join me in calling on Rhode Island State Leaders to address our state’s vast housing needs and support a robust investment in affordable housing and housing stability! Due to decades of underinvestment, Rhode Island’s housing crisis has reached dangerous magnitudes. According to the Gap Report published by the National Low Income Housing Coalition, our state faces a shortage of over 24,000 rental homes affordable and available for our lowest income households. Rhode Island only has 51 affordable and available rental homes for every 100 extremely low-income households – those with incomes at or below the poverty level or 30% of the area median income and housing costs keep rising. The American Rescue Plan Act is an extraordinary one-time opportunity to make impactful investments in Rhode Island’s affordable housing stock and housing stability services. In January, Governor Dan McKee revealed his plan to invest $250 million dollars in housing and homelessness as part of his FY23 budget. However, we know that Rhode Island’s needs are far more severe than this proposal can address and that a more robust solution is necessary. Help me tell our State leaders that they must support an investment of $500 million in affordable homes and housing stability in order to provide every Rhode Islander with a safe, decent, affordable home!",
