"description": "A shadowy national effort funded by big corporations and PACs is working to roll back child labor laws that have been in place since the 1930s. Why? Because corporate lobbyists are looking for a new pool of workers to exploit. The most extreme child labor bill is under consideration in Iowa, where they’re trying to allow kids into ultra-dangerous meatpacking facilities, high-volume Pepsi bottling plants, and building demolition and construction sites where more than 5,000 workers died last year. When we asked a lobbyist for the Iowa Grocery Industry Association how this bill came to pass, he told us, frankly: “The bill was really spearheaded by the Restaurant Association.” Watch our investigation into the wave of child labor laws, then write to your state’ legislatures demanding that they REJECT child labor and take the One Fair Wage pledge to reject Restaurant Association PAC money! The National Restaurant Association is called the “other NRA” for its insidious lobbying efforts. Restaurant owners are some of the most vocal and effective opponents of minimum wage laws, workplace safety regulations, and child labor protections. They use their powerful PAC to block pro-worker legislation before it happens. That’s why our friends at One Fair Wage, an organization that fights to end the sub-minimum wage, have organized a pledge for lawmakers to take to refuse money from NRA PACs. Restaurants are particularly eager to hire kids because they will work for lower wages and are less likely to question unsafe working conditions. Send a message to your state representatives urging them to take the One Fair Wage pledge to reject PAC contributions from the other NRA, and to fight to protect our kids from workplace exploitation!",
