"description": "The 2025 Spartan Race being hosted on August 23 and 24, 2025 in the city of Elk Grove, California will be allowing Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) to recruit at the event, and at Spartan Race events being held this year in Manheim, Pennsylvania, Payette, Idaho, Waialua, Hawaii, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Glen Jean, West Virginia. Allowing the presence of CBP agents to recruit and promote their agency during these upcoming races is harmful and tone deaf. Spartan Race CEO and founder Joe de Serna himself has publicly lauded immigrant workers and spoken about their role in his success as an entrepreneur. Partnering with CBP to recruit agents that harm working class families is counterintuitive to the values the Spartan Race's CEO and founder espouses, and antithetical to the mission of the race itself: Spartan's mission is to help people live without limits. Our training and race events can help everyone develop the physical and mental strength to take on all of life's challenges with an unbreakable spirit. We believe that living "the hard way" based on ancient wisdom and daily training can make us the people we were born to be. Immigrants face life’s challenges with an unbreakable spirit to become the best versions of themselves for their future generations. We are asking people, especially those who enjoy fitness and racing events like these, to reach out to the Spartan Race and ask them to end their partnership with CBP which not only harms immigrant communities, but makes these events unwelcoming-- even dangerous-- for families of color to attend.",
