"description": "A recent report by the Institute for Policy Studies reveals a significant disparity in compensation at Starbucks. In 2024, CEO Brian Niccol's total compensation was $95.8 million, while the average barista at the company earned $14,674. This creates a pay ratio of 6,666-to-1, the largest CEO-to-worker gap found among S&P 500 companies. In fact, Niccol was the fourth highest-paid CEO last year, while the average Starbucks employee earned less than their counterparts at all but two other firms in the entire index. Now they’re using accounting smoke and mirrors to create the impression of financial distress, to justify store closures and the illegal termination of unionized workers. That’s right, Starbucks just announced a $1 billion restructuring and will close 59 unionized stores -- nearly 10% of union locations. It includes the Roastery in Seattle, one of its busiest shops. Baristas at Starbucks make nearly $1,000 below the federal poverty level for an individual, while the CEO makes almost $100 million a year. If you break it down, he makes about $50,000 more per hour than the average Starbucks worker. The hypocrisy doesn’t stop there. Starbucks actually spent over $80 million on a glitzy managers-only conference in Las Vegas just last June. This isn’t an attempt to save Starbucks from financial disaster. It’s an attempt to crush the union and fool customers into believing it’s justified. We need to make sure they know they aren’t fooling anyone. Starbucks needs to know we’re paying attention and we’re standing with workers against this corporate greed. Check out our exclusive report and then sign and send a direct message to Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol calling on him to cut his pay instead of closing stores and firing workers now",
