"description": "Ordinance 35,125 approves and expands the use of racist and problematic surveillance technologies, including live facial recognition and cell-site simulators. Live facial recognition automatically identifies anyone in a public place in real time regardless of criminal background. This data can then be shared with state police, federal agencies, and ICE. Why should I oppose it? No other city in the country has approved the use of live facial recognition technology. New Orleanians will the guinea pigs for this technology under an increasingly aggressive Republican state and federal government. NOPD's previous use of facial recognition cameras misidentified and targeted people of color, and did nothing to increase safety. JP Morell called in "wholly ineffective and pretty obviously racist". If this ordinance passes in Louisiana, nothing prevents the Federal or State government from using this data with a warrant, without adhering to municipal law. The privacy of everyone is in danger if these surveillance technologies are approved.",
