	"description": "The ruling class in Iowa is in lock step support of Israel’s ethnic cleansing campaign in Gaza. In the Iowa Legislature and beyond, politicians are trying to take away Iowans’ right to criticize the Israeli apartheid regime. We cannot let this repression stand unchallenged. We have a duty to ensure that our right to criticize unjust policies remains protected. About the Letters In recent years, the Iowa Legislature has passed three laws that threaten our right to engage in lawful and necessary criticism of Israel&#x27;s policies. This legislation was part of a nationwide strategy to ban the boycott, divestment, and sanctions movement, known as BDS. The ruling class learned from the international movement against South African apartheid that BDS works, which is why they are using the law to suppress it. All of these bills passed with votes from Republicans and Democrats. Meanwhile, in November, the University of Iowa Democrats released a statement in solidarity with the Palestinian people. Less than an hour later, the Iowa Democratic Party released its own statement, accusing the students of antisemitism and demanding that they resign. This is an insult to all Iowans of conscience, who want an immediate and permanent ceasefire and an end to Israeli apartheid.
