"description": "Jimmy Kimmel interviewed James Talarico, the Democratic nominee in Texas’s toss-up Senate race. ABC is keeping that interview off television. Viewers who want to see it have to go to YouTube. Kimmel said Trump’s FCC threatened him, his show, ABC, and local stations over ordinary guest bookings. He moved the interview off broadcast “out of consideration” for ABC affiliates, especially in Texas, so they would avoid “this nonsense.” That is the point of the Trump administration’s strategy: Raise the cost of booking the wrong guest until the network does the silencing itself. Trump appeared on Kimmel in 2015 and 2016 as a candidate. The same format is now being treated as a license risk because a Democrat is running -- and Republicans are afraid they’ll lose Texas in the midterms and Democrats might flip control of the senate because of it. Disney has already paid Trump $16 million and already pulled Kimmel once under FCC pressure. Appeasement didn’t stop the administration’s attacks. It bought more threats, including early license reviews and now this. Disney and ABC can still choose courage. The public forced a reversal on Kimmel last time. Executive leadership can do it again. Reject the intimidation. Put newsworthy interviews on television and make clear the Trump administration stays out of the control room. Click ‘START WRITING’ to demand Disney and ABC stop caving to Trump and stand up for free speech.",
