"description": "Jimmy Kimmel made a joke about Donald Trump’s age, his health, and the obvious absurdity of Trump pretending to be a strongman while living on rage, fast food, and grievance. Kimmel’s skit, aired days before the White House Correspondence Dinner, had Jimmy delivering the night’s comedic address. In it, he said that Melania Trump had the “glow of an expectant widow.” That was the joke. It was a roast. It was satire. It was late-night comedy doing exactly what late-night comedy is supposed to do. And now, there’s this breaking news: Not only are Trump and Melania demanding that ABC take Kimmel off the air (again), claiming the joke was violent rhetoric, Trump’s FCC has announced it will review ABC licence to broadcast – years ahead of the next scheduled renewal. This isn’t only ridiculous -- it’s a dangerous attack on free speech. If Disney and ABC pull Kimmel because Trump and Melania demanded it, every comedian, journalist, writer, and producer will get the message that if you criticize Trump, corporate executives will sacrifice you to protect their bottom line. That is exactly how censorship works in Trump’s America. He does not need to personally write scripts or ban jokes when corporations do the work for him. He just needs executives scared enough to preemptively silence critics before he escalates. That’s also the goal behind the FCC’s announced review of ABC’s broadcast licence. Scare corporations into compliance for fear of being run out of business. Anna Gomez, the lone Democratic FCC commissioner said in a statement that the FCC actions are “unprecedented” and “unlawful.” She specifically added “companies should challenge it head-on. The First Amendment is on their side.” She’s 100% right. Disney and ABC need to tell the FCC they’ll see them in court. Click “START WRITING” to send your message demanding Disney and ABC stand up to Trump, stand by Kimmel, and reject Trump’s campaign of intimidation and censorship now.",
