	"description": "Across the state, Hoosiers believe that when they or their loved ones are sick, they should be able to see a doctor without worrying about drowning in bills. Being able to maintain our health and the health of loved ones is a core part of the American Dream and reflected in Indiana’s family values. However, for over 407,131 Hoosier households with medical debt in collections, this is not a reality. Not included in this estimate are households on the cusp of being able to afford or not afford healthcare due to rising costs of living or due to being uninsured or underinsured. With over $2.2 billion in medical debt across the state of Indiana, households across Indiana need legislative action to keep healthcare within reach and on the list of freedoms that we enjoy and prevent households from financially spiralling with the pressure of medical debt. Legislative action towards affordable healthcare through increased charity care opportunities, consumer protections from aggressive medical debt practices, and a future in which we can all thrive as our healthiest and best selves is possible.
