"description": "Indoor air quality issues have been a persistent problem in our schools for decades, impacting the health of students, educators and school staff. Many of Connecticut’s aging schools lack air conditioning, creating environments where dust, allergens and even viruses can thrive. The COVID-19 pandemic has heightened the need for school building upgrades to improve air quality. Although Governor Lamont’s budget has allocated $90 million to address this issue, legislative action is needed to address air quality fully and meaningfully in our schools. Fortunately, the Labor & Public Employees Committee passed SB 423: AN ACT IMPROVING INDOOR AIR QUALITY IN PUBLIC SCHOOL CLASSROOMS. This bill would: set minimum indoor air quality and temperature standards establish air and temperature monitoring and reporting requirements for all schools guarantee HVAC work is undertaken by trained, certified technicians SB 423 is an important step towards ensuring healthier schools. Input your name and information to generate a draft letter for your state senator and representative for you to review, edit and send to them right away. Let’s raise our voices to make needed adjustments to our learning and working environments and improve student and staff well-being.",
