This is an emergency, and New York must fight back. In Albany, there are two pieces of critical legislation that are top priority to keep immigrant New Yorkers safe and protect our communities from being terrorized by ICE and CBP. The New York for All Act prohibits New York’s state and local government agencies, including police and sheriffs, from colluding with ICE, disclosing sensitive information, and diverting personnel or resources to further federal immigration enforcement. The Dignity Not Detention Act (introduced by socialist in office Senator Julia Salazar) would get out New York out of the business of immigrant detention, ending contracts with and banning the ownership or operation of facilities that currently detain hundreds of New Yorkers every night in inhumane conditions. It’s critical that these two bills pass the legislature, and are signed by the governor, this year!
