"description": "Every day Congress refuses to rein in ICE, families across the country live in fear. Armed immigration agents are showing up in neighborhoods, workplaces, and homes with little oversight, leaving communities traumatized and lives destroyed. This is happening right now as Congress debates whether to keep funneling billions of taxpayer dollars into an agency that has repeatedly abused its power. ICE has become a symbol of unchecked federal force. Aggressive raids, warrantless stops, and reckless use of force have led to devastating consequences, including the deaths of innocent people and U.S. citizens. Communities are paying the price for an enforcement system that operates with sweeping authority and minimal restraint. Democratic leaders have already warned that ICE’s current practices are unacceptable. They have called for real reforms, including strict limits on enforcement authority, clear identification by officers, bans on racial profiling, and enforceable standards for use of force. But warnings alone are not enough. Without consequences, ICE will continue business as usual. Congress holds the power of the purse, and that power matters. Cutting ICE’s funding is the most direct way to force change. It sends a clear message that constitutional violations, intimidation tactics, and deadly encounters will no longer be rewarded with blank checks. Accountability only happens when Congress is willing to use its leverage. This moment could not be more urgent. With DHS funding negotiations underway, lawmakers must decide whether they stand with communities demanding safety and dignity, or with an agency that has repeatedly shown contempt for both. Every dollar sent to ICE without reform is a vote for more fear, more abuse, and more lives put at risk. Funding should be redirected toward humane, community-based approaches that respect due process and keep families together. Immigration policy should be rooted in compassion, fairness, and the rule of law—not militarized enforcement and terror. We call on Congress to act now. Cut ICE’s funding until enforceable reforms are in place. Demand transparency, oversight, and accountability. Protect communities instead of criminalizing them. Tell Congress: hold ICE accountable, cut its funding, and stop financing abuse in our name. Add your name today and make it impossible for lawmakers to look away.",
