"description": "The Trump administration plans to fold the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) into a larger Justice Department grant bureau. OVW leads federal efforts to address domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking. And it administers grants that support programs serving survivors across the country. Congress required OVW to remain a separate and distinct office. Its dedicated leadership and grantmaking authority help keep federal resources focused on the needs of survivors and the organizations that serve them. Protecting OVW’s independence is critical. Programs serving survivors are already experiencing delays in receiving critical federal funding, and this consolidation would compound these delays. This means lifesaving resources may not reach the programs and communities that need them most, when they need them. On a bipartisan basis, Congress has strengthened OVW’s services through reauthorizations of the Violence Against Women Act. DOJ’s consolidation plan puts that structure at risk while programs are already facing funding delays. Congress has pushed back on a previous attempt to consolidate OVW. Lawmakers must act again by pressing DOJ to abandon this plan, preserving OVW’s independence, and protecting funding for its grant programs. Click “Start Writing” to tell your members of Congress to stop the consolidation, keep the Office on Violence Against Women independent, and protect its funding.",
