"description": "Congressional Republicans are preparing a one-two punch against working families. First, Reconciliation 2.0 would pour roughly $70 billion into ICE and CBP, using the budget reconciliation process to bypass the Senate filibuster and lock in years of funding for detention and deportation. Then comes Reconciliation 3.0, a broader budget scheme that would combine massive Pentagon spending, cuts to human needs programs, and another round of tax breaks that mainly benefit the wealthy and large corporations. That includes protecting and expanding tax preferences for wealth, including capital gains. Capital gains are profits from selling assets like stocks, and the benefits of preferential capital gains tax treatment flow overwhelmingly to the top. 88% of capital gains income goes to the wealthiest 10% of Americans. 75% goes to the richest 1%. 55% goes to the richest 0.1%. This is another tax break for the rich. Working families do not need Congress to make investment income even more privileged. They need lower costs, affordable healthcare, food assistance, housing support, childcare, education, and wages that keep up with the cost of living. Instead, Republicans are trying to use budget reconciliation to fund unaccountable enforcement agencies, expand Pentagon spending, cut or cap domestic programs, and preserve a tax code that lets the wealthy pay lower rates on income from wealth than workers pay on wages. Congress should be fixing the economy and lowering prices for working people, not handing tens of billions to ICE and CBP while preparing another round of tax breaks for the rich. Tell Congress to reject Budget Reconciliation 2.0 and 3.0. No blank checks for ICE and CBP. No cuts to human needs programs. No more tax breaks for the wealthy.",
