	"description": "More than 12,000 baristas have organized with Starbucks Workers United (SBWU), winning more than 700 union elections nationwide. They have added more workers to their ranks each consecutive month for nearly five straight years. And yet, Starbucks Workers United still does not have a contract. SBWU launched a boycott in August to increase the pressure on Starbucks to negotiate a union contract with the workers. It is critical that we, as fellow members of the working class, stand with these workers. We have a generational opportunity to push the labor movement forward in the service industry. The boycott is a powerful tool, but only if we all pitch in--both personally and through our institutions. City Council should make sure your tax dollars are not being paid to a vendor who has broken federal labor law hundreds of times over the last five years. That’s why we&#x27;re asking for your support to end any City of Austin procurement of corporate Starbucks food and beverages until a union contract is secured by the workers. When union baristas – backed by a coalition of allies – prove that we can take on the biggest bosses and win despite rampant union busting, it will put all employers on notice about the power of our movement. Your representatives at City Hall need to hear your thoughts on this issue. Please send this email to Council, and then share this with your organization, allies and friends.
