"description": "Edmonton City Hall is trying to give a lucrative bus cleaning contract to a big rich corporation. Academic research shows that contracting out transit does not improve efficiency or reduce costs. And yet the City of Edmonton has pursued this baseless policy of contracting out at an extreme cost to our communities. For example: ·         The City spent more the $600 million on consultants in just four years and $245 million was not properly reported ·         Single-sourced contracts, questionable tenders and secrecy around concrete-crushing contracts and waste-hauling in 2015 ·         The public-private partnership contract in waste management is tens of millions over budget and years behind schedule ·         The City of Edmonton overpaid for the Ice District development and then bought a lease for government workers in the most expensive tower in the City as part of the deal ·         The Walterdale Bridge opened 27 months late and mired in lawsuits and fines after all the materials for the bridge were faulty. ·         The P3 Valley Line LRT run by TransED was supposed to be running by December 2020 ·         The P3 project called SmartFare is also a year behind schedule Tell Edmonton Council and the City Manager to stop its inhumane mass termination of essential transit workers and its expensive contracting out scheme.",
