"description": "Legislation (HB 1225/SB 918) introduced in the Florida House and Senate would allow our children to be exploited by corporations at the expense of their education and wellbeing. HB 1225/SB 918 would allow employers to schedule 16- and 17-year-olds for unlimited hours without breaks—whether school is in session or not. They would also allow employers to schedule 14- and 15-year-old Floridians who have graduated high school or are home- or virtual-schooled for unlimited hours, overnight, and without breaks. If the Florida Legislature allows employers to schedule teens for unlimited hours during the school week, they are inviting exploitation of our children, while deprioritizing education. Research shows that teens who work more than 15 hours a week are more likely to drop out of high school and that the more hours a high school student works, the lower their grades tend to be. Join me in urging the Legislature to REJECT exploiting our children, and to protect their futures. Contact your legislator today!",
