"description": "Ohio's primary was messy, chaotic, and confusing -- with nearly 200,000 absentee ballots uncounted and historically low turn-out. [1] A repeat of that in November would be even more dangerous. Our state legislators need to act urgently to make sure that all Ohioans can vote safely and securely. We've asked them to do so by passing Senate Bill 191 that allows voters to apply online for an absentee ballot. We called on them to provide pre-paid postage for absentee applications and ballots, and to allow more than one early vote center and drop box per county. But instead, it seems like they're moving in the wrong direction. This week, State Rep. Cindy Abrams (R-Harrison) introduced House Bill 680 -- a bill that would make voting harder and more complicated -- and it's already had its first hearing. This bill: Makes it more complicated to apply to vote-by-mail by sending an informational postcard rather than a ballot application to voters; Prevents the Secretary of State from mailing absentee ballot applications to all Ohio voters and stops him from using federal funding to pay return postage for ballot applications and ballots, and Threatens the safety and security of election day by requiring any emergency plans to be established almost two months in advance. Don't let the State and Local Government Committee move forward on a bill that makes it harder for voters to make their voices heard this November! Enter your information to send a message to the House State and Local Government Committee members and the Speaker of the House asking them to oppose HB 680 and instead support common sense legislation to safeguard and improve elections in Ohio.
