	"description": "Our research at Rutgers and the employment of thousands of union members is being negatively affected by the state’s artificially high fringe rate that is an obstacle to getting externally funded grants and contracts. The state’s calculation of benefits doesn’t recognize that the vast majority of Rutgers and other public higher education employees are in the Alternate Benefit Program—a defined contribution retirement plan. A more accurate fringe rate would make us more competitive in winning and renewing our grants and contracts. At our unions’ urging, legislation to require the state to make a more accurate calculation that could reduce the current fringe rate by as much as 25 percent has now been introduced in both the Senate and the Assembly. Please help us send a message to your legislators asking them to sponsor and support S2747/A4164 before June 30, so the legislation can have an immediate positive impact.
