"description": "The university administration is about to cause irreversible damage to a program that has educated generations of Rutgers students, including those who are graduating this May: the Writing Program in the College of Arts and Sciences in New Brunswick. Almost all of the adjunct lecturers in the Writing Program have been laid off for next fall—many of them after teaching at Rutgers for years. The number of Writing Program classes being offered is drastically lower than the previous fall—despite the increase in tuition approved last summer—and the administration has increased maximum class size, disregarding all the research proving that smaller class sizes are especially critical to writing instruction. Please send an email to School of Arts and Sciences Executive Dean Juli Wade, New Brunswick Chancellor Francine Conway, and President Jonathan Holloway urging them to reverse these layoffs and cuts. You’ll find a sample email there, but we encourage you to add your own thoughts! If you’re a student or alum who took Writing Program classes, tell the administration what you valued about your classes. If you’re a parent of a Rutgers student, share your concerns about how larger class sizes would mean less attention and feedback from writing instructors.",
