"description": "July 2023 is on track to be the hottest month in recorded history. Burn wards in Arizona are filling up with people who fell down on the sidewalk. Too many workers don’t have proper protections to keep working in extreme heat -- but employers are forcing them to work anyway. In fact, in Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott just signed a law to eliminate workers’ already-limited rights to water breaks. In direct contrast to Gov. Abbott, President Biden took action. He directed the Department of Labor to issue a hazard alert for dangerous conditions in industries like agriculture and construction and announced multi-million dollar investments in water storage and pipelines for drought-stricken communities. This is a good start, but workers must demand more. We need federal regulations protecting workers from extreme heat. The Biden administration is listening -- so we must raise our voices. Click “START WRITING” to send a message to the Department of Labor urging them to enact regulations to protect workers from extreme heat now.",
