"description": "As our members know well, our union has been without a new Collective Agreement since April 1, 2025 and after 32 days of collective bargaining, with no meaningful counterproposals, the PEINU Negotiating Committee felt they had no choice but to walk away from the bargaining table on Sept 18, 2026. This decision was not made lightly, and now we need to put the pressure on to help make sure our government representatives and Health PEI understand how powerful our voice can be when we speak together as a collective. At a time when Islanders continue to face challenges accessing health care, our nurses need to be a priority. The PEI Government and Health PEI have spent a reported $40.6 million dollars on private, for-profit agency nurses in 2025-26. This increased reliance on the private hiring of nurses not only costs the taxpayer more per nurse, it also causes strain on our public nursing workforce. We need to tell our government representatives that we deserve an offer for a robust and competitive collective agreement that will help recruit new nurses to the province, and most importantly retain the nurses we already have.",
