Like operational oil wells, they produce methane emissions that heat the climate, cancer-causing chemicals, and spew toxic pollution into communities nearby. 60% of these idle wells are leaking methane and toxic chemicals. Until now, fossil fuel companies haven&#x27;t had to clean up these idle wells and have only had to pay small fees to keep those wells. But AB1866 will change that by forcing oil and gas companies themselves to clean up their leaking idle wells. The bill would require companies to plug a certain percentage of their idle wells every year and the biggest companies would have to plug at least 20% of their idle wells on a yearly basis. Send a letter to your representative telling them to support AB1866 and hold the oil industry accountable for polluting our communities.",
