"description": "This July, we are putting platform worker rights on the election agenda. Over a decade into the rise of the gig economy, platform companies including Uber, Amazon, Deliveroo, Just Eat, Bolt, FreeNow and others have trampled over the rights of workers and better interests of communities with impunity. Platform workers, as a predominantly migrant workforce, are grossly under-protected and under-represented. Hundreds of thousands of gig workers are still misclassified as self-employed, denying them their statutory employment rights and leaving many earning below minimum wage. Workers need a government with the vision and will to tackle the entrenched problems of gig work poverty and exploitation, and to regulate the growing risk of unmediated technologies like facial recognition, AI-powered predictive monitoring systems, and autonomous vehicles, which pose a significant threat to the rights and dignity of workers and their communities. The time for action is now. Worker Info Exchange are proposing 10 urgent priorities for the next government to protect all workers – employed, worker and self-employed – from algorithmic exploitation in Britain’s broken gig economy. You can use their tool to write to your election candidates and ask them to support platform workers in the next Parliament.",
