"description": "For 60 years, Head Start has provided children and families with much more than early learning. It connects families to health services, developmental support, nutrition, family engagement and other resources that help children arrive at school ready to learn. On August 7, the White House released a proposal to change the rules (NPRM) that govern Head Start. The proposed changes could increase classroom sizes, reduce teacher qualification standards and weaken protections and supports for children with disabilities. Those are not abstract regulatory changes. They affect real children, families and communities. This matters deeply in New York, where Head Start and Early Head Start serve nearly 40,000 children. In many of our rural communities, Head Start is one of the few dependable early learning options available. For children with disabilities and developmental delays, it can be a critical bridge to the services they need. For parents, reliable early learning is what makes work and education possible. Contact your federal representatives today and urge them to submit comment on the proposed rule changes before the deadline of October 6th. Do you want to learn more about the proposed changes to Head Start by HHS or get more information about submitting your own comment? Check out Liftoff's webinar on September 30th, 2026.
