	"description": "The Gulf Rice’s whale is special to America. While most great whales migrate long distances, Gulf Rice’s whales spend their entire life in the ocean waters between Texas and Florida. That’s why we affectionately call them “America’s whale.” These beautiful, rare whales are one of the most critically endangered species. Scientists estimate around only 50 remain. Shockingly, Secretary Burgum announced he will convene the “God Squad” to issue an exemption to the oil industry from doing anything to protect these whales, dooming them to extinction. Protecting the Rice’s whale is straightforward: ships have to slow down in the Rice’s whale core habitat, surveys need to use quieter technology, and they have to make sure not to spill oil. These practices would only cost a small fraction of any oil company CEO’s annual salary. Congress must stop Secretary Burgum from issuing this exemption. It’s the duty of Congress to stop Secretaries from doing harm. We’ve seen this year that Congressional and public pressure can reign in Secretary actions and even lead to replacing a Secretary.
