	"description": "The Animal Justice Party South Australia calls on the Premier Steven Marshall MP &amp; Environment Minister David Speirs, for an immediate ban on Duck &amp; Quail shooting in South Australia. Already banned in NSW, WA &amp; QLD, community opinion regards recreational Duck shooting as barbaric. Australia has already lost significant amounts of wildlife due to unprecedented habitat loss &amp; environmental conditions including drought &amp; most recently, bushfires. Shooter numbers have declined considerably in recent decades in all states which still allows this &#x27;sport.&#x27; This is due to duck rescue campaigns &amp; continued public opposition. Duck shooting contravenes South Australian law with wounded ducks suffering painful deaths. Under section 13 of Animal Welfare Act (1985) it is illegal to kill an animal by a method that does not cause death to occur as rapidly as possible. Hunters have no duty to report injured birds, it is believed that a significant number are left to die of their wounds every year. The Animal Justice Party is opposed to shooting flying birds for any purpose. We call for recreational Duck &amp; Quail shooting to be immediately banned, and that a Parliamentary inquiry be established to consider the cruelty aspects of any use of shotguns in killing animals. We are confident that the scientific evidence will lead such an inquiry to recommend a ban. By signing this petition you’ll be calling on the SA Government to ensure animals are properly protected under law and supporting our recommendation for a ban on recreational Duck &amp; Quail shooting and the establishment of a Parliamentary inquiry.
