"description": "The City of Miami has a big opportunity to bring affordable housing and more green space to Allapattah now - we can’t miss this chance! At a time when Miami is the most expensive housing market in the country, the City is planning to redevelop 19 acres of city-owned land near Jackson Health System, known as the GSA lot. We’re asking the City Commissioners to put the community at the center of their decision-making and to consider their views as they ask for proposals for redeveloping it. Over two years, we have surveyed and met with hundreds of Allapattah residents, all of whom say that the neighborhood needs more housing residents can afford, more parks and green space, and more community services. As of today, Aug. 26, the city has not incorporated the community’s desires into its request for proposals to developers. Will you help us ensure those needs are taken into account by signing this petition? Here’s what we’re asking of City Commissioners: We want to make sure the city’s Request for Proposal for developers will: Prioritize the needs of residents, and include: Publicly-accessible park and green space and Housing priced for the current neighborhood residents, something we’ve seen done successfully in other neighborhoods. Provide an 8-week application period to ensure quality proposals, Include an Allapattah resident on the evaluation committee; Require a second phase of community engagement to create a Community Benefits Agreement, which will outline how the community will benefit from the project. Public land belongs to the people, and the people should have a say in how it’s developed. This is our chance to do right by our residents, and create a model for using public land to stem our affordability crisis. Thank you for your support!",
