"description": "Brookline has endured a shortage of housing options for decades. As a result, housing costs have become unaffordable for many residents who want to stay here. One reason why Brookline has not created enough new homes is an antiquated zoning code from 1973 that actually limits the building of multi-family housing near public transit! Now, 50 years later, we need a zoning code that reflects our current reality. The state of Massachusetts passed a law (the MBTA-CA) requiring towns like Brookline to enable the creation of new multi-family housing near our existing transit stops that will help address our housing shortage and affordability. This fall Brookline Town Meeting members will consider Warrant Article #3, which will ensure meaningful compliance with the MBTA-CA by enabling at least 700 new units of housing near public transit; address rising costs and help people stay in Brookline; strengthen small businesses on Harvard Street; fight climate change by reducing car dependency; and make Brookline zoning work for Brookline. Your town meeting members need to hear from you about the struggles you faced to afford housing in Brookline. Please use the form below to write a quick note that we can send to your Town Meeting Members and let them know you support Warrant Article #3.",
