"description": "The new amendment to New York’s BYO / Right to Refill bill, S7408A / A8007A, is not a meaningful fix. It still mostly reaffirms already-legal practices like beverage refills and packing out leftovers, while leaving out the uses that actually matter most: takeout food, grocery store delis, salad bars, and hot food bars. The amended bill still does not establish a clear statewide right to use your own container for takeout. We urge Senator Fahy, Assemblymember Kelles, and legislative allies to stop advancing this weak amendment and replace it with the full grassroots amendment package developed by Zero Waste Ithaca and allied organizations. New Yorkers need real BYO rights, not a narrow bill that can be called progress while leaving the main barriers in place.",
