"description": "Despite ample opportunities, the current administration has not yet expressed commitment to protect all dating violence and sexual assault survivors under Title IX.  On July 13th, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos met with survivors on July 13th and said it would be “the first conversation of many.” Survivor led organizations like Know Your IX, End Rape on Campus, and other allies across the country are coming together to hold her to that promise and make sure she meets with many more survivors and advocate groups.   Many DC residents are college aged-students, one in eight residents attend a local college or university. Young women ages 18-24 are at the greatest risk for dating violence, sexual assault and stalking. In fact, 43% of dating college women report experiencing abusive dating behaviors including physical, sexual, technological, verbal and/or controlling abuse.  In the face of these experiences, survivors may not feel safe on campus and may even think of leaving school. Title IX—and all of its protections—have provided significant services to help survivors stay in school. Title IX mandates that schools prevent sexual harassment and violence on campus, and promptly and equitably address it where it occurs. The Department of Education’s continued support of Title IX is essential for holding schools accountable and helping ensure that students know about—and therefore, are able to advocate for—their rights. Sign on to our request for a meeting with Secretary DeVos and make sure she listens to survivors, keeps students safe, and enforces the necessary protections that Title IX provides.",
