"description": "Workers at Amazon facilities sustained more than 24,000 serious injuries in 2020, resulting in a serious injury rate nearly two times the non-Amazon warehousing and storage industry, a report released today by the Strategic Organizing Center (SOC) shows. The report, "Primed For Pain: Amazon's Epidemic of Workplace Injuries" also found that: In 2020, Amazon’s overall warehouse injury rate was over twice that of Walmart warehouses, while Amazon’s severe injury rate was more than two-and-a-half times Walmart’s. The dangers for delivery drivers is even worse, as they were injured 111% more often than Amazon fulfillment center workers, and at rates 48% higher than UPS. The serious injury rate at Amazon facilities increased between 2017 and 2019, jumping 20 percent and resulting in an average of two months of recovery time. “They want you to deliver 20 to 22 packages an hour,” said Sierra Williams, who slipped on ice while making a delivery for an Amazon Delivery Service Provider in Cedar Lakes, Indiana, and tore her meniscus. “This is very hard to do in the winter. But Amazon doesn’t care. If we don’t meet delivery quotas, they take routes away from our companies. Amazon only cares about profits.” Amazon’s abysmal health and safety record is not an accident. Rather, it is the predictable outcome of a company that prioritizes growth and profits over the health and safety of its employees. Unfortunately, this alarming rate of serious injuries will likely continue unless Amazon is forced to take meaningful action to make its workplaces safer. Join our campaign to hold on Amazon accountable for putting profits over worker health and safety. Sign the petition to demand the company take action to #ProtectAmazonWorkers!",
