"description": "Please sign our petition to the members of Irish Parliament It’s time to stop rewarding the cruelty of dog racing! Every year, 6,000 greyhounds disappear from record, never to be heard from again. Of the dogs who find themselves at one of Ireland's sixteen racetracks, every day can be their last. They suffer broken legs and broken necks, heart attacks, seizures, paralysis and more. More than 3,000 injuries have been reported since 2015, with 1,125 dogs killed. Some dogs are even testing cocaine positive! But even as track attendance has dropped by 50% over the last decade, lawmakers have bolstered this cruel industry with more than €300 million in subsidies. In June 2019, RTÉ News exposed to the world that innocent greyhounds are sent to die in abattoirs, shot in the head, their bodies thrown away like trash! This notwithstanding, Greyhound Racing Ireland is given millions of euro in taxpayer bailouts every year. It is time to end this vicious industry and redirect funding to vital public services such as education, health care, family shelter and more. Please sign our petition and call on Irish lawmakers to do two things: 1) read our report, Rewarding Cruelty: Greyhound Racing in Ireland 2) call for a phase out of dog racing nationwide. Each member has received a copy of our report so now is the perfect time to reach out!",
