	"description": "Florida&#x27;s extreme 6-week abortion ban was established on May 1st, 2024. With this ban in effect, people who are pregnant past 6 weeks who live in Florida cannot get an abortion in state. During this time period, most people will not even realize they are pregnant. A survey in 2024 stated that 6 in 10 women in Florida are concerned about the health of themselves or their loved ones due to the extreme abortion ban still in effect. During the November 5, 2024 election, Amendment 4 was voted on. This amendment, titled the Right to Abortion Initiative, would have gotten rid of this extreme abortion ban, which would have been a win for those concerned about the health of themselves and their loved ones. Although the amendment was defeated, an overwhelming 57% majority of Floridians voted Yes, just 3% shy of the 60% needed to pass a Florida amendment. This proves there is a popular mandate for abortion related healthcare in Florida. Establishing an abortion fund at UF will give people access to the healthcare they need. The abortion fund will provide logistical and financial support to people unable to receive an abortion in Florida, allowing them to travel out of state to improve their health and well-being through an abortion. Through these measures, we can circumvent this dangerous abortion ban and give several people access to necessary and important healthcare measures.",
