"description": "Officer Connor Reinsch was recently transferred from the New Britain Police Department to the Middletown Police Department following numerous community calls for accountability in the death of Katherine Colon. He was sworn in on August 27th, 2025, and now serves the Middletown community—most of whom are unaware of his history. On September 21st, 2023, Officer Reinsch was driving 25 mph over the speed limit without lights or sirens, responding to a non-emergency call, when he struck and killed Katherine Colon. He admitted to being distracted at the time of the crash. Although State’s Attorney Maureen Platt chose not to file criminal charges, the investigative report found that Officer Reinsch violated Connecticut Statute 14-218a (Traveling Too Fast for Conditions)—a violation that directly caused Katherine’s death. Katherine paid the ultimate price, while an officer who broke the law and failed to uphold his duty of care continues to wear a badge in another city. The State of Connecticut, the City of New Britain, and now the City of Middletown all know that Officer Reinsch’s actions unjustifiably took Katherine’s life, yet none have held him accountable. Allowing him to quietly transfer to another department without public transparency sends a dangerous message: that police officers can act recklessly and face no real consequences. This lack of accountability not only dishonors Katherine’s memory but also puts the residents of Middletown at risk of another preventable tragedy. Police officers are not above the law and must be held to the same standards as everyone else. Middletown should not employ an officer who committed motor vehicle homicide and was found to have broken the law. Our Demands Fire Officer Connor Reinsch for recklessly and illegally operating his vehicle at excessive speeds while responding to a non-emergency call. Hold law enforcement accountable for the preventable deaths caused by their negligence. Take action now and Sign the petition to demand #JusticeForKatherine and urge the Middletown Police Department to take immediate action by firing Connor Reinsch",
