"description": "A bill headed to Governor Newsom's desk would take away local control and mandate public middle and high schools in California start at 8:30 a.m. or later. SB 328 (Portantino) may be well-intentioned but it could have unintended consequences on local communities and working families. Communities today already can choose to start their school days when it works best for their students locally. Nothing is stopping communities from choosing a later start time for their students. Some already do. An unfunded mandate from Sacramento is unnecessary and problematic and would cause massive disruption for working families. There are simply far too many local factors to consider when deciding our school start times. Young people growing up in San Francisco have different challenges than children in Tehachapi. Share your concerns about SB 328 with Governor Newsom! Send him a message and please provide additional comments for Governor Newsom on this issue. Will this bill impact your local community schools? How so? Let him know!",
