"description": "Last week, the Foundation for Wildlife Management based in Idaho introduced a 2025 Wolf Season Change Proposal to initiate wolf trapping and snaring on public lands in the Wood River Valley. They are also proposing to allow wolves to be pursued and shot from snowmobiles and pursed and killed by hunting dogs, no matter the age of the wolf or wolf pup. The proposal comes at a time when the Wood River Wolf Project, which has been successfully operating in the Wood River Valley since 2008, has proven its effectiveness in reducing sheep predation through nonlethal methods. The past two years there were no reported confirmed losses, and our 17-year average is under five sheep out of 20,000 grazing the area annually. This is the lowest loss of sheep to wolves where the two species overlap in the state on our public lands. The F4WM’s proposal would allow for traps and snares to be set along public hiking trails and near campgrounds without any signage warning of their presence. Our dogs can also be killed or maimed by these devices. It would also allow for the use of snowmobiles, atvs and drones. The Blaine County Commissioners are speaking out against opening these areas to trapping and snaring. Please add your name to this letter and help us demonstrate that the community is firmly behind them Wolves are an essential part of our local ecosystem. We are coexisting with wolves even in areas with dense sheep grazing on our national forests. There is no reason to allow dangerous traps and snares on our public lands. Please share this with others who care about coexisting with wildlife and our freedom to recreate safely on our public land. And please donate if you can. We have so little time to stop this before the wolves have their new pups in April and become like sitting ducks for trappers. ",
