"description": "The officers and members of Socorro Education Association (SEA) are petitioning that the Socorro Independent School District Board of Trustees delay the return of teachers and staff that are currently working remotely until the following guidelines have been met in the county of El Paso. A positivity rate of < 5% for a minimum of 14 consecutive days, without an increase in cases. This is due to the fact that many of our educators and their household members are at greater risk of contracting the coronavirus when conditions other than these exist. At present, El Paso is experiencing an increase in the number of coronavirus cases. With this current trend, SISD would put members of its community at greater risk of contracting the coronavirus if educators returned to campuses on October 5th. We need to follow all of the CDC guidelines – not simply pick and choose which ones to follow - to best protect our community. We need to implement appropriate mitigation measures to protect students and administrators. We, the undersigned, put our faith in the members of our SISD School Board to do what is right to ensure the health and safety of our community. We are petitioning that the members of the SISD School Board delay returning more students and personnel into our schools until the above guidelines are met. We want our district to allow for the continuation of remote teaching and learning until such conditions are met.",
