"description": "Right now, Bristol City Council is consulting on a massive extension to the licensing of private landlords in the city. Extended licensing would: Create a publicly available register of landlords Let the Council inspect every property for bad conditions Protect tenants from eviction Fine landlords without a licence If we get this through, its going to be great news for tenants all across the city, but its not a done deal yet. In areas that brought in Landlord licensing in response to ACORN's campaign in 2016 we've seen improvements in the the quality of housing offered to tenant's and seen landlords prosecuted for not meeting environmental health standards in their properties. It's vital that happens across the whole city. The new proposals from the Council cover Clifton Down, Central, Cotham, Clifton, Hotwells and Harbourside, Southville, Windmill Hill, Ashley, Bishopston and Ashley Down, Easton, Lawrence Hill, and Redland. And Landlords across Bristol are desperate to put a stop to the plans, they're already organisng and trying to put pressure on Councillors to scrap the extension of Landlord Licensing. We've set-up this petition so that the voices of the many tenants in the city can be heard over the rich and vocal voices of a few Landlords. By signing, you'll be letting Bristol City Council know that the majority of people in the city want rented accommodation to be safe to live in and that bad Landlords shouldn't be able to run roughshod over tenants.",
