"description": "The Slow Streets program was one of the few bright spots during an otherwise devastating pandemic. Our supporters – from all walks of life and all across the City – welcome these transformative spaces, and continue to depend on Slow Streets to help reach San Francisco’s mode-share, climate change, and Vision Zero goals. On August 3, 2021, the SFMTA Board voted unanimously to make four Slow Streets permanent: Lake, Shotwell, Sanchez, and Golden Gate, and moved Page Slow Street forward through a separate but related process. Our members were thrilled to see the process moving ahead and enthusiastically participated in SFMTA’s public outreach. Soon, Slow Streets will be up at the SFMTA Board for approval once again. In the brief time since its inception, the Slow Streets program has created safe spaces for children to play, built community, and reduced neighborhood congestion and emissions all across the city. We are calling on SFMTA, the Mayor and the Board of Supervisors to work together to pursue a path to permanency for this incredibly successful program. This permanent Slow Streets program should: Stay Slow: Approve existing Slow Streets, and improve them with slow infrastructure Equitably Expand: Pilot flexible community-led projects in equity-priority neighborhoods. Connect the Network: Connect Slow Streets across the city to create a seamless network For the future of our city, please keep our Slow Streets slow.",
