"description": "To Protect Our Water and Environment, We Oppose a Niagara Bottling Plant in Bloomfield. We are residents from across the town of Bloomfield CT. We ask that:  1. The Bloomfield Town Council rescind the $4.1 million tax abatement that has been offered to Niagara Bottling Plant. 2. The Mayor and Town Council work with citizens to make the best decision to protect our water, environment and local control.  Niagara Bottling, a for-profit company from California, plans to make 2.6 million single-use plastic bottles of water per day at the Bloomfield plant and sell them for a profit. The project was hastily reviewed without any opportunity for review by the public. The town council has voted a $4.1 million tax break for Niagara and the MDC plans to sell our water to them for less than they charge us. There is no provision to prioritize water to residents over water to the bottling plant. In case of a water shortage, residents will be asked to conserve but Niagara will have access to 1.8 million gallons a day. We are presently in a moderate drought and the future is unknown. 200 heavy trucks everyday polluting near a school , and wear on roads to be paid by citizens. No guarantee that Bloomfield residents will get any of the few likely low-wage jobs. Bottled water is no safer, and perhaps less safe than tap water because of weaker regulation. Most plastic water bottles are not recycled. They end up clogging landfills and ultimately littering the oceans, and harming birds, marine life and animals. NIAGARA BOTTLING IS WRONG FOR BLOOMFIELD AND ALL MDC TOWNS.",
