	"description": "Oregon AFSCME Postdocs are negotiating their first union contract with OHSU. These Postdocs are biomedical researchers with graduate level degrees who are hired as trainees for faculty positions, but are treated as a cheap set of hands. Postdocs are largely supported by federal taxpayer dollars, and OHSU does not pay anything for their labor. OHSU has a multibillion dollar budget and their proposal cost OHSU only 0.1% of their staffing budget. They are asking for a living wage that is reflective of important biomedical research they do and Portland’s cost of living, adequate support for foreign internationals, and the same vacation/leave benefits as all other OHSU employees. OHSU has stonewalled Postdocs during bargaining and progressed to mediation with a ZERO COST economic proposal demonstrating unprecedented, disrespectful behavior.",
