	"description": "Phoenix is in the midst of a housing crisis. Phoenix metro&#x27;s median rent has increased by 46% in the past year, and the most vulnerable tenants are paying the price. The city of Phoenix has a Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development that currently leases to over 6,000 people, but over 16,000 people are on the waitlist. 16,000 renters! Reports show that too many of the residents in Phoenix who receive Section 8 vouchers cannot find homes within their six-month window of voucher eligibility and remain unsheltered. In other cases, landlords hike rent and discriminate against renters who receive public assistance. When they do this, they diminish the already strained supply of affordable housing in the city of Phoenix. Many Arizonans gathered on February 1st at the Phoenix City Hall to support the launching of the Take Back Our Home campaign, but this fight did not stop there. We will attend every single City Council meeting until Mayor Gallegos, Vice Mayor Ansari, and Phoenix City Council takes action to end housing discrimination! We are fighting to create a future where anybody, regardless of whether or not they receive public assistance, can afford to live and stay in their homes. It&#x27;s important for us to hear from Arizonans about their experience with housing in Phoenix, AZ — especially those who rely on public assistance programs, such as unemployment benefits or Section 8 vouchers, and are vulnerable to eviction and displacement.
