"description": "New Hampshire state legislators are trying to outright ban offshore wind technology on the heels of an irresponsible executive order to halt new permits. Sign our petition to show our government that we need offshore wind! Offshore wind is a renewable energy technology that is critical to the clean energy transition in our region. The Atlantic Coast, and particularly the Gulf of Maine has great potential for wind energy because of the consistent wind speeds. Here are some of the reasons wind energy will benefit our community: Offshore wind energy development can provide quality jobs and support the health and wellness of regional communities. New Hampshire will miss out on this opportunity for its residents if we refuse to build offshore wind. Supporting wind energy makes us attractive for businesses. Wind energy reduces carbon pollution, and reduces oil spills and other pollutants. Right now NH is over-dependent on natural gas for fuel. Because of that we keep seeing our bills skyrocket. Natural gas prices are volatile. We need to diversify the energy we get and offshore wind is a great opportunity to do that because it is more cost effective and clean than natural gas. A lot of misinformation is being shared about wind power. There is no scientific evidence to show that windmills are destroying marine life, and in fact the robust permitting process for offshore wind includes environmental studies to ensure the building of these facilities does not harm the environment. Climate change is currently impacting our oceans negatively, harming whales, changing their migratory routes, and destroying the ecosystems they need to live. Fossil fuels actively contribute to climate change, while wind power does not burn fossil fuels and is a cleaner alternative that can reduce our overall greenhouse gas emissions. If you'd like to learn more about wind energy I encourage you to watch these webinar recordings from experts on the topic.",
