	"description": "On June 24, 2021, parents, teachers, and community members of Trinity Street Elementary School received notice that LAUSD plans to permanently close Trinity. In recent years, Trinity Street Elementary has faced significant institutional hardship, most recently after Gabriella Charter School co-located on Trinity Street Elementary School’s premises in 2017. Prior to colocation, Trinity Street ES has also shifted from being a Pre-Kindergarten-5th Grade elementary school to a 2nd-5th Grade elementary school, with Maple Primary Center serving families in the community with children in Kindergarten and 1st grade. Even though Maple and Trinity have a supportive and mutual relationship, the grade division has restricted Trinity’s numbers and growth. Many families prefer to have their children at one school instead of navigating through 2-4 schools depending on the grade level of their children. Trinity Street Elementary, located in the heart of South Central Los Angeles, has been a hallmark of the community for 117 years (since 1904), and is Local District Central’s oldest and longest serving public school. In fact, many teachers, parents, and community members have deep roots with Trinity Street Elementary. We have dozens of students whose parents, grandparents, and so on have all sat in Trinity’s classrooms as Falcons themselves, making our school a multigenerational institution for many residents of the community. Sign our petition to demand that Trinity Street Elementary stays open and expand our grades from Kindergarten to 6th, so that we can once again thrive as a Proud Public School. This is a time when we should be focused on providing the resources needed for our students to recover from the pandemic, not filled with fear over losing a school that has served generations of families in our community.
