"description": "Are you an NHS Employee based in a West Yorkshire Trust? If the answer is yes, you may have heard of systems such as Optica, Referral to Treatment (RTT), Leeds Place, or Local Cost Collection (LCC). Each of these systems is an FDP product produced by the US Tech company Palantir. We, the West Yorkshire branch of the No Palantir in the NHS campaign, will collect as many signatures as possible and bring them to the West Yorkshire ICB meeting in March to demand they stop the rollout of Palantir's data platform in our NHS - you can be part of this too! Here are the 8 things you should know about Palantir, and their product for the NHS; the Federated Data Platform, and why you should sign our letter to the West Yorkshire ICB, to pause/reject the rollout and review this product further. 8 things you should know about Palantir and the FDP: The company, Palantir, initially funded by the CIA, currently specialises in AI-powered military, surveillance technology and data analytics. It has no track record in healthcare, but has identified health data services as a target market. Currently, US immigration agents, ICE, are using an app developed by Palantir to hunt people deemed 'illegal migrants'. This app uses American's health data. In November 2023, Palantir was awarded a £330 million contract to create a new data management system called the Federated Data Platform (FDP) that aims to provide ‘joined up’ NHS services. This would possibly be the largest population health dataset in the world. Many Trusts and ICB's have raised concerns about the FDP rollout, with some refusing implementation altogether. This is due to operational and governance risks, additional costs and inferior capability to current digital systems. The procurement process of the FDP lacks transparency and key stakeholder engagement, with the platform being described as "more focused on imposing specific software solutions on NHS organisations than the integration of data", by Senior Data Analysts who feel sidelined in favour of an externally imposed system without meaningful consultation. The Good Law Project took legal action against NHSE due to Palantir's questionable NHS contract and there was even an investigation by the NHS into Palantir's potential contract breach. Check out this online tool to find out where your Trust is at with the rollout and write to them about it. The British Medical Association (BMA) voted to resist the rollout of the FDP based on the view that Palantir was an unacceptable partner for the NHS. In Feb 26, the BMA announced plans to guide its members not to use Palantir's tech in the NHS. The FDP product is costing the NHS a lot more than originally stated. For a product which front-line clinical staff have described as "unintuitive and time consuming", these resources could be used in proven digital solutions procured by local providers. Palantir have stated their intention to monopolise government contracts with it's tech. Outsourcing important data management systems to a private company, will create a vendor lock in. Amidst huge financial pressures and staffing cuts, investing in software that lacks efficiency and furthers privatization of public services will put NHS data at risk, and increase these pressures. Help us raise these concerns with the West Yorkshire ICB, and follow in the footsteps of other Integrated Care Boards, and Trust's who have rejected tech, that undermines public trust, compromises our commitment to protecting patients, and presents significant risks to NHS values.
