	"description": "Alabama was the first state to experiment with nitrogen hypoxia, a new form of gas chamber for executions, with the execution of Kenneth Smith on January 25, 2024. Arizona recently announced that it has refurbished its gas chamber and is prepared to use cyanide gas to execute any current death row prisoner who was sentenced to be executed prior to November, 1999. Oklahoma and Mississippi already allow the method but have not tried it. Kansas and Nebraska legislators rejected the method in 2024, a similar bill is stalled in Ohio, and Louisiana legislators enacted the method in 2024 and Arkansas did so in 2025. Join us in calling for a halt to all executions, particularly those by gas suffocation.",
