"description": "On October 4, 2024, CU Boulder's Administration brought forward Student Code of Conduct charges against two student activists within Boulder Students for Justice in Palestine. These two students are now barred from campus, outside of their educational duties and Boulder SJP has been barred from hosting or sponsoring any events on campus. As we commemorate the one-year anniversary of the genocide perpetrated by Israel against the people of Gaza, we are deeply concerned that the University of Colorado Boulder has turned away from its purported investment in our shared community values of human rights, academic freedom, and justice. Instead of the serious accounting of CU Boulder’s financial and institutional ties with corporate entities responsible for resourcing this genocide, the CU Boulder administration has decided to issue sweeping sanctions against students who are calling for a more ethical university. In the past year, an estimated 186,000 Palestinians have been murdered, with the aid of weapons and technology developed and marketed by contractors represented at CU Boulder's October 3rd Aerospace and Defense Career Fair. The list of recruiters for this year's event included Lockheed Martin, RTX, L3Harris, Sierra Nevada Corp, and the NSA. Just as courageous students across the nation have brought attention to the role that universities play in global networks that facilitate genocide, the CU Boulder students who are now facing disciplinary hearings were acting to ensure our community questions our own institutional connections to a nation state that is widely understood to be flouting international law. In its decision to charge protesting students with violations of the code of conduct, and in its deregistration of the CU Boulder chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), the CU Boulder administration has made it clear that it is willing to trample the First Amendment rights of our students through the use of threat, unsubstantiated accusation, and arbitrary use of administrative power. We demand that the University of Colorado Boulder: Drop all charges against the student protestors associated with the protest at the October 4th Aerospace and Defense Career Fair. Re-classify the CU Boulder Students for Justice in Palestine student group to “good standing” and return all privileges associated with any student group. End contracts with corporations found to be funding or resourcing Israel's genocide, including but not limited to: Lockheed Martin, RTX, L3Harris, Sierra Nevada Corp, and the NSA. Commit to centering Palestinian voices on campus and in its development of guidelines that aim to protect student safety.",
