"description": "According to the University of Illinois-Chicago, Illinois is the second most corrupt state in the entire country. Corruption at the state and local level has cost residents 10.6 billion dollars since 2000. While this sounds bad, it could get even worse. The Chicago Tribune, which has been exposing corrupt officials in the state capital for Illinoisans, has been bought out by Alden Global Capital. With this change of leadership, comes a massive impending downsizing. This has already caused over 40 journalists to leave since May. That number will only grow with additional budget cuts from Alden. We need these good journalists to shine light on corruption in our state capital so we can hold our elected officials accountable. We need to mobilize and tell our state lawmakers to support publicly funding newspapers. Join us on August 16th in calling or emailing your state legislators that you want them to be held accountable!",
